As one among the best higher education and research institutions in France, the Ecole Centrale de Nantes founded in 1919, is a member of the Ecoles Centrales Group (ECG) along with the Ecoles Centrales Lille, Lyon, Marseille, and Paris, with more than 6,500 students in Engineering Sciences.Centrale Nantes is a founding member of the regional Pôle de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur labelled by the French State (PRES) together with 3 multidisciplinary universities in Western France (Nantes, Angers, and Le Mans). Together the 4 Higher Education Institutions – HEIs – welcome more than 50,000 students. Understanding the importance of international experience, Centrale Nantes has made a minimum stay abroad mandatory for all its home students. Within their engineering curriculum, 100% ECN students leave the School for either a Double-Degree (DD / 2 years abroad) or 1 or 2 exchange semesters. Some of them leave for an international Doctorate. 200 home or host students are enrolled every year in the Double Degree – DD programmes with European and non-European university partners. Centrale Nantes privileges its participation in the development of the European area as a major asset of its international policy, by meeting the expectations of European projects such as ERASMUS, TEMPUS, and by enforcing the principles of compatibility, comparability, and competitivity with other regions.

Centrale Nantes is an ERASMUS mobility programme active member.
