National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute” (KhAI) named by N.Ye. Zhukovskiy is the only engineering University in Ukraine providing full cycle of higher education in the field of aviation and aerospace science.

Founded in 1930, University has already prepared more than 60 thousand engineers for aerospace industry of Ukraine, former Soviet Union and other countries. Today KhAI has more than 12 000 students, 800 teachers, 1200 researchers, and more than 2000 employees. 75% of teachers have got academic titles of Professors and Associate Professors, scientific PhD and Dr.Sc. degrees. At present KhAI provides training of students on 50 major subjects at its 45 chairs. KhAI is a member of International Association of Universities IAU/UNESCO and globally recognised research centre.  KhAI is associated member of European Aeronautic Science Network ( and associate partner of PEGASUS partnership of European Aeronautic and Space Universities  ( )

Historically the following areas are among top priorities for KhAI:

1)            Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering including aerodynamic and fluid dynamic, structures design, strength analysis and FEM simulation, as well as development, testing and maintenance of aircraft, spacecrafts, satellites and their components.

2)            Manufacturing Sciences for both metallic and composite structures production and assembly aimed on         process efficiency increasing via utilization of up-to-date CAD/CAM/CAE systems capabilities.

3)            Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications including development and exploitation of automated control systems based on the fault-tolerant or adaptive algorithms, etc.

4)            Informatics, Computer Science and their use for design and manufacturing problems solving, technology-enhanced learning, civil and medical application, etc.

University stuff is deeply involved in international teaching and research activity together with academic and industrial partners from Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Israel, USA, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, China etc. KhAI participates in educational joint projects within TEMPUS programme and collaborative research projects under EU Framework Programmes as well as in numerous bi-lateral contracts in aeronautic and space areas.
