Technical University of Moldova is the only higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova offering engineering programmes. The university was set up in 1964. It is subordinated to the Ministry of Education. It is accredited by the Ministry of Education.
TUM comprises 10 faculties: "Power Engineering", "Engineering and Management in Machine Building", "Engineering and Management in Mechanics", "Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics", "Radioelectronics and Telecommunications", "Technology and Management in Food Industry", "Textile Industry", "Cadastre, Geodesy and Constructions", "Urbanism and Architecture", "Economic Engineering and Business". The teaching staff includes about 840 professors, and about 19000 students are enrolled at present. Since 2005 the educational process is structured in three cycles according to the Bologna Process: Bachelor, Master and Doctoral studies. In 2008 the Doctoral School was set up which goal is to ensure the quality and transparency in the organization and unfolding of the doctoral studies, thus contributing to the maintenance of the quality of research.
TUM offers programmes in about 80 specialties and specializations, preparing engineers for almost all branches of the national economy. University studies at TUM are organized on the basis of the European System of Transferable Academic Credits (ECTS).
In some departments all subjects are taught in a foreign language. Two Francophone Departments "Informatics" and "Food Technologies" offer programmers in French. The Anglophone Department "Computer Sciences and Electronics" offers programmers in English. The students with good knowledge of foreign languages have the opportunity to attend courses in universities from EU countries, USA, Canada, etc. The best students continue their studies at Master's and Doctor’s levels in these countries.
TUM students do their practice at state and private enterprises in our country, according to the bilateral contracts or in other countries: Romania, Russia, Ukraine, France, Germany, USA, Canada, England (UK), Belgium, Slovakia, etc.
TUM has an International Department coordinating the international cooperation activity and also the student exchanges.
